Africa: Safari . Wildlife

Safari . Wildlife

Wild. Vast.
Unforgettable.

About Africa

An African safari is built around two drives a day, at dawn and at dusk, when the animals move. Kenya's Masai Mara and South Africa's Kruger anchor most first trips, with Cape Town or Victoria Falls added for contrast.

Things to do

Worth building
the days around.

Take both daily drives

Dawn and late afternoon are when predators are active. The middle of the day is for camp, not the vehicle.

Book a balloon morning

A sunrise flight over the Mara, followed by breakfast on the plain, is the one add-on almost nobody regrets.

Add a coastal contrast

Two or three days in Cape Town after the bush gives the trip a completely different second half.

Visit a private conservancy

Conservancies allow off-road tracking and night drives that national parks do not permit.

Before you go

Africa
questions.

Kenya for the Mara and the migration. South Africa if you want safari plus cities and coast in one trip.

A yellow fever certificate is required on some routes and malaria prophylaxis is commonly advised. Confirm with a travel clinic once your route is fixed.

Many lodges accept children over six and some run family-specific camps. Age policies vary, so this is checked per property.
