About New Zealand
New Zealand packs an improbable range of landscapes into a short drive. The South Island alone runs from the vineyards of Marlborough to the glaciers of the west coast and the fiords at Milford. Self-drive itineraries suit it best, with a few guided days built in.

Things to do
Worth building
the days around.
Cruise Milford Sound
Go early. The morning boats catch the waterfalls before the day-trip coaches arrive from Queenstown.
Drive the Southern Alps
The Tekapo to Mount Cook road is one of the best two hours of driving anywhere. Build in stops.
Try one big adventure
Queenstown is the home of commercial bungy and jet boating. One booking is usually enough to remember.
Walk on a glacier
Heli-hikes at Franz Josef put you on ice that road-level viewpoints cannot reach.
Before you go
New Zealand
questions.
For a first trip of nine or ten days, the South Island gives you the landscapes people picture. Add the North Island if you have two weeks.
Roads are well maintained and quiet, but they drive on the left and distances take longer than the map suggests. An International Driving Permit is required.
Indian passport holders need a visitor visa. Processing takes time, so applications are started as soon as dates are confirmed.
